Invest Wisely: Mark 12:41-44
Are you ready for Black Friday yet? Perhaps I shouldn’t admit it, but that is one of my favorite holidays of the year. If you can even call it a holiday. We have developed a bit of tradition at the Rice household of waiting all year long to buy stuff- like clothes, furniture, tools, electronics, and Christmas Toys. When those amazing 50% off plus deals come online- all that waiting pays off as we get twice as much bang for our bucks. Doesn’t that feel great? I got an early Christmas present last week when I found some Bible Study resources I had been craving were on an early Black Friday special for 90% off. So I’m definitely pumped now for November 29.
Conversely- doesn’t it stink when you buy something only to have that same item go on sale the following week? It just feels like a complete waste of resources. We work so hard to earn and save money, and yet it takes a lot of wisdom to know how to spend it. What should we invest our money into- the little that may be left after the mortgage, utility payments, grocery bill, health insurance, and all the necessities? Do we invest into entertainment to set our minds and hearts at ease? Pick up a hobby? Give gifts to our friends? Go on date nights? Pick up an extra something for the house? Set aside additional money for retirement? There is an endless list of ways to spend our resources.
Unfortunately, money itself usually seems pretty scarce- so it is important that we invest that money wisely. So what is the best way to spend it? There are a lot of different opinions and experts that will give you different advice- so let’s turn to scripture and see what God has to say about where we should invest our money.
We will be exploring the investment of couple copper coins in Mark 12:41-44, taking place just a couple days before Christ was crucified. Jesus was sitting in the temple, watching people give to the temple treasury, and providing his disciples commentary regarding these givers and their gifts. We’re going to explore where the temple money went, what it looks like to trust God with our resources, and what God thinks of our giving.
This is a powerful passage that answers a lot of questions about who we are, and what God desires from our hearts. Please join us this Sunday morning, 10:15am at Christ Community Church as we how to invest wisely.
